THE MISSION

The organization believes in a service delivery cultue reflected in an accountable partnership between the organization and the individual or community. It accepts the unqueness of each individual and recognizes the potential of each person.

Its management is responsive and based on participation, mutual trust and respect. ITs structure is such that it encourages and facilitates the development of competence and commitment to the needs of these vulnerable children and senior citizens.

PROGRAMMES RUN BY THE ORGANISATION

  • Ikhwezi Home for the mentally and physically disabled children
  • Ethel Mthiyane Special School for children with disabilities
  • Buhlebesizwe Creche and pre-school for abled children
  • KwamaShandu Old Age Home

THE ENROLMENT

  • Ikhwezi Home has 70 children
  • The Special School has about 110 children
  • Buhlebesizwe Creche has 120 children
  • The Old Age Home is still being reestablished after it was demolished by storm years back. So no senior citizens.

THE CHALLENGES AND NEEDS

A. IKHWEZI HOME

1. SERVICES

As the cost of living went up, the water went up as well. We ended up having a huge unpaid bill. Ilembe water had to stop the water supply to one hostel building (R 102 106 - 00) and the remaining one (R 46 970 - 00) and the remaining one ( r 46 970 - 00) will also soon get a cutoff.

2. BUILDINGS

  • the structure is very old and a solution to this will be to demolish it and for a new one to be erected. If renovations are done, the roof, walls, floors as well, plumbing and the kitchen must be covered.
  • the Dept of Human Settlement has shown interest but they need other stakeholders
  • a new fence

3. FURNITURE

  • 100 new single beds in hostels (old ones used were received from the District Hospital)
  • 100 lockers for children's belongings
  • 200 chairs and 10 tables
  • wall shelves (admin office)

4. TECHNICAL INSTRUMENTS

  • 4 plasma TV's
  • 2 gas stoves
  • 4 computers (preferably notebooks)
  • 1 keyboard instrument
  • 1 hifi system
  • 1 DVD player
  • 4 washing mchines

  • 200 bed sheets
